Biography

Dr Clint Laurent is an authority on interpreting the impact of global demographic change. He has been observing, analysing, forecasting and interpreting demographics for over 17 years and his company (Global Demographics Ltd) has developed substantial databases of the demographic and socio-economic profiles of countries which account for 82% of the world’s population and 90% of its GDP. His forecasts encompass 78 countries - 32 states of India, 31 provinces, 353 prefectures, and 2178 counties/cities of China. His analysis tracks and then interprets the changing nature of populations, labour forces, households and their income and expenditure patterns right up to 2034, and the implications of that change for the economy.

Clint is the founder and CEO of Global Demographics which has offices in London and Hong Kong and clients in every major market. He founded Asian Demographics in 1997 and transformed the organisation into Global Demographics in 2006 as its geographical coverage increased. He serves as the company’s Chief Executive, based in the UK, but spends over half of his time in Hong Kong and the Asia region. The company, through its subsidiary Global Demographics Healthcare (of which he is the Director), tracks and forecasts the incidence and prevalence of 101 chronic health conditions as well as health care expenditure and infrastructure generally, and forecasts the likely trends in demands on the health system globally. Another subsidiary makes its databases and interactive models available to academic institutions at student friendly prices.

Clint moved to Hong Kong in 1976, initially with Hong Kong University and then as a Director of Price Waterhouse, where he built up a market research and consultancy group. Prior to founding Global Demographics in 1996 he started Asia Market Intelligence (AMI) in 1985, a market research company now part of Ipsos and then (1992) Asia Studies Ltd, a high value analysis and reporting firm, now part of Harris Interactive. He then started Asian Demographics Ltd in 1996.

Clint has a PhD in Marketing and Statistics from Bath University in the UK and holds a Master of Business degree from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He is the author of two books – Tomorrow's World (Wiley, 2013) and China’s Demographic Future, (soft copy only – updated bi-annually on iBooks and Amazon, 2015)
